La Colmena
For over a decade, Frog Hollow has been hosting weekly group sessions for Spanish-speaking families with children of 0-5 years old. These families have built lasting connections and a loving community.
Through free play, songs, rhymes, dance and stories in Spanish, many children have established their first social relationships and have experienced the culture of their Spanish-speaking families.
Through conversations, music, cups of coffee and laughter, many parents and caregivers have shared resources contributing to their sense of belonging and settlement as newcomers to Canada.
The generous work of many volunteers has been essential to sustaining this joyful group over the years.
In the fall of 2020, alongside virtual sessions, this community space took a new name and became “La Colmena” – Frog Hollow Hive. This is where many “little Spanish-speaking bees” have kept singing, smiling and learning every week. Today, we are very proud to be presented as La Colmena, and we hope to expand the connection to more Spanish-speaking families throughout our community.
