Medicine bags in the moment with gratitude

Published on
November 1, 2024

At the gardeners hangout we have a great team of volunteers learning of medicine bags, learning of the four sacred medicine; cedar, sweet grass, tobacco and white sage. Together we smiled and we sat and talked and conversed about our healing and our hopes and dreams of a better future working together, Better together. Here are photos of us assembling medicine bags for the community. The sense of the medicine tickled our noses, especially the vanilla scent of the Sweet Grass just recently harvested. And somehow that sent resonated across the park, drawing our families closer as they were drawn to our table inquiring of the medicines. Reaching out and holding the bag to their hearts, asking if they can have another one for their loved ones. It was a very touching morning. Medicine from the land is sacred, it’s always there to heal and nurture our being. It always was.

Learning how to harvest sweet grass
Braiding sweet grass is typically using 21 strands divided into three groups. The first seven represents the past generations and our ancestors, the second group of seven to represent our current generation and the third seven for future generations.

A pinch of cedar, tobacco, sage and sweetgrass
Any sachet bags will do. We made many medicine bags right in the moment!
More to come with gratitude.
